Serravalle Langhe

Designed to be easily heated in Winter, with expanses of glass facing South, this informal rural retreat is within a convenient one hour drive of Turin, and was intended to be used by a hotelier friend of the architect and his family. Tha day-time living areas were situated above the bedrooms on the ground level to take advantage of rising heated air collected under the roof. The glass was protected by a metal security lattice. The East-West axis of the main block points towards the towering 3700m high peak of Monviso. Giving as his reason the absence of the architect, the client declined to proceed. Doyle lived and worked in Turin from 1968 to 1978.
